Dr Oz

Liz likes his daytime program and I have watched it a few times myself and enjoyed it. Dr Oz wrote the cover story article for Time magazine recently and has educated a lot of people by dispelling myths about foods. Here is a short summary of the foods he says are good for you in moderate amounts.

Coffee (holds off Alzheimer's and memory issues)
Dark chocolate (one of the best sources of *antioxidants)
Eggs (one a day with yolk recommended as the perfect protein)
Red wine (antioxidants and good for lowering blood pressure)
Whole milk (ingested cholesterol does not directly lead to blood cholesterol as we've been told)
Salt (eat all you want unless it raises your blood pressure)
Nuts (all tree nuts are great sources of antioxidants)

There has been enough reading material over the years about all of the foods mentioned here that many of us pretty well knew all of this but he has put them all together in a single magazine article read by millions. Good work!!

BTW I eat all of those foods in medium amounts minus whole milk (I am now conditioned to non-fat milk).

... and I love blueberries... just planted six bushes and hope to have a crop in two years... also blackberry and have on bush planted. I eat these daily when they are available fresh. Good antioxidants all.  Also tend to have bowls of mixed nuts and I now have a really nice automatic nut cracker...I like them fresh like that... Liz gets pissed if I don't remove all the shells from the kitchen counter.... so I do.

So I have inadvertently eaten healthy all my years and never knew it. Its a good thing no one ever told me it was good for me as I probably would never had tried any of it :)

*antioxidants attach to and naturally remove "free radicals" that are thought to accelerate aging and cause cancer.
