Diversity Training

I've been retired too long... not getting the liberal diversity training we teachers got credit for. Therefore I am going to drift ever so lightly into social racism and say, Asian culture is about building better, not about creating...invention. They are copy cats and do it incredibly well. This was true of Japan and is true of China now and probably in the future.

In the military arena China is not out front with invention and will likely never be until they are (for lack of a better word) Americanized culturally. In the meanwhile we have some of the greatest minds in the US working at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). A lot of money is wasted in DARPA. Throw money at them and they get zero results. Then why are they important? because when they nail one they REALLY nail one. Read this

The thing is, DARPA is given lots of blue sky money to think about possibilities and spend it  win or lose. Losing is what makes DARPA work. If they were not allowed to fail they wouldn't invent. Invention is an American cultural advantage over Asian thinking. That is a given but wont float in a liberal conversation.

So when the military cut backs some (and they have to) don't listen to the ones pointing out how outrageous some of the programs have been. Instead bookmark the above link and go back to it again and again and again. DARPA is very important.
