Why did GM fail and Ford not?
First of all it must be understood that large manufacturing companies do not horde profits from one year to fund expenses for the next. They borrow operating expenses from a bank(s). In fact they set up a line of credit for three or four years in advance. At the end of each year, if there is a profit, it goes to the stock holders. If not, not.
GM was due to sign a new operating contract with the bank(s) that would take them out three years but the market crashed and no money was available. Ford had just completed their four year contract(s) so the bad market did not hurt them.
It is that simple. Ford had their guarantees and GM could not borrow a dime after the crash.
Bush should get credit for saving GM (and Chrysler) but Obama is getting it now. However not too long ago some in the Media were "accusing" Obama of bailing out GM.. they called it "Obama Motors" and did all the "Car Czar" stupidity.
You see how it works? This division in our country is perpetuated, stoked, and fired by the media lies. It's a terrible thing to watch.
Oh yeah.. it was Bush who bailed out Wall Street too. Now he is demonized by his own (Tea) Party
It is almost impossible to be a republican or a democrat anymore because of the media.
** Correction. Bush should get credit for bailing out Chrysler because he set the stage. Obama actually bailed out Chrysler.
Oh come on, Ron. Stop with Bush apologist dogma.
